About the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration

Everyone is invited to join the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration to lift up and honor the vibrancy of Native communities of these lands and beyond. We’ll celebrate the rich history, enduring legacy, and invaluable contributions of Native people, who have been an integral part of this region, and beyond, since time immemorial.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Native activists and allies who, in 2014, passionately advocated for the City of Seattle to officially recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

The Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration is coordinated by the CANOES Native Affinity Group (a City of Seattle employee affinity group serving American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and other Indigenous employees from City of Seattle and King County). The program at Pier 62 is in partnership with Friends of Waterfront Seattle, and the community meal at King Street Station Plaza is in partnership with Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
