At King County Metro Transit’s Atlantic/Central Base, a pedestrian bridge crosses above light rail tracks and facilitates access to a parking garage used by hundreds of bus drivers and other transit staff as they come and go from work. Julie Berger’s Motion Song gives the bridge a lyrical quality, imbuing the industrial setting with a melody made of shapes and color.

Integrated into the guardrails of the 138-foot bridge, the artwork features a series of wire screens powder-coated in warm metallic colors that dissolve in the light. Seven red medallions punctuate the 16 overlapping screens—and together they evoke ever-changing horizons and skylines.

Based in the Seattle area, Berger makes a wide range of works in metal, including furniture, lighting, gates, fountains, sculptures, and large-scale public art. Her artworks can be seen in locations across Washington state as well as in San Diego and Los Angeles. Other 4Culture commissions include Forest Illumination at King County Metro Transit's Burien Transit Center.
