Dispersion Field
Eric Eley
Harborview Medical Center
Layered geometric forms create a deep, transportive landscape.
A geometric landscape stretches across a long, wood-paneled wall in the narrow reception area of the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, located in Harborview’s Ninth & Jefferson Building. Inspired by its setting, Eric Eley’s Dispersion Field borrows from various types of scientific and mathematical diagramming.
Together, four angular panels form a large drawing layered with a patchwork of linear clusters, bursts of light, and translucent color fields. With their rich detail, these overlapping elements add dimension to the room, offering an aperture through which visitors and employees can explore an imaginary space.
My work imagines form behind and beyond what is visible. Using rational building blocks like lines, points, and planes, I create expansive imagery that plays with the subjectivity of perspective and scale. –Eric Eley
