Homeward
We’re an overflow pour
of people, a random crowd
of rain-glittered coats, yet
we streamline and board the bus step
by step—a single-file
promise each makes to the other,
leaning homeward like herons
easing wing by wing
together over shining tidelands,
over outbursts of evergreens.
