Public Art Project for Stained Glass for the Thonotosassa Library, Hillsborough County, FL

The project for the new library will have several stakeholders including Library Services and the Public Art Committee as well as other interested community organizations and individuals. The design of the library and the neighboring park concession building references Prairie Style architecture and the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. The desired stained glass should have a theme relating to nature and expressed using the design vocabulary of the Arts and Crafts Movement, particularly the works of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Stained glass artwork is to be installed in the false skylight shown on the reflected ceiling plan of the main reading room. The skylight consists of six panels. The two central panels are 2’-6” x 2’-9”. The central panels are flanked on each side by two panels that are each 2’-3” x 2’-9”. See Exhibit C.1. Design of the caming for these panels is the responsibility of the Artist(s). A secondary priority is to provide stained glass for the two windows in the inglenook. Each window is 2’-6” x 7’-2”. See Exhibit C.2. The stained glass will become part of the County’s permanent public art collection.
- Artwork to be original design(s).
- Glass artwork for windows shall be installed inside the frames of windows specified as part of the building envelope. Glass artwork for the false skylight shall be installed inside the frames formed by the 6”-wide members shown in the architectural plans.
- The Artist is responsible for the design of the caming, the metal structure stiffening the stained-glass work within the frames formed by the 6”-wide members.
- The glass artwork is to be designed for minimal maintenance.
- The artwork must be devoid of advertising, including charitable, fraternal, religious, or political signs, symbols, logos, or any other such device.
