Based on two very successful years, the 2019 family friendly event has expanded to 25 renowned chalk artists International, National and Regional. The showcase will transform 164th Avenue NE and 74th Street of Redmond Town Center in Redmond, Washington into amazing chalk masterpieces August 16 - 18, 2019.

With origins on the streets of Italy, chalk art has attracted and inspired master and amateur artists and spectators from around the world: https://www.cnn.com/2013/09/10/travel/chalk-art-festivals/
The 3rd annual Pacific NW Chalk Fest will feature:
• Chalk artworks by 25 International, Regional and Local professional artists
• Chalk garden for children and children at heart to create personal masterpieces
• Live music provide by Redmond Town Center
• Chalk art classes leading up to the festival weekend

Redmond Town Center provides the perfect location for the artists and the audience to experience the event in grand style. The impromptu canvas of the shopping center’s broad streets and smooth pavement, offers the perfect palette for the large-scale chalk works, while the center’s second-story balconies provide a different visual perspective and photographic opportunity.

Project Impact

The 2018 Pacific NW Chalk Fest attracted people from all over the Western US. More than 100,000 attended the three-day festival in 2018. They shopped and joined in the art and activities. Twenty-two artists up from 15 the year before were given free rein to create whatever they wished. This resulted in a wide variety of styles and works.

A Children's Chalk Mandela was created as the focal point for interactive participation by kids of all ages, resulting in an ever changing palate that transformed itself over the three days.

Photography and social media posting became an instant mode of communications, as people told their Facebook Friends about the event, and posted Instagram, Snapchat, photos to show the daily progression of the artworks.

Project Implementation

I am applying for a grant in the amount of $8,500. These funds will be direct towards regional and International artists along with children's activities. We have already been in contact with several new NW artists who have expressed their desire to participate in this year’s festival. Last year we had over 40 applications from all over the NW region and across the US. We now have a growing International interest in the Chalk Art world too.

If we do not receive this grant we will work even harder to develop corporate sponsorships that will allow us to achieve the number and quality of artists we wish to present.

A regional and a national call for artists will begin in March, with a final selection of featured artists to conclude in May. We always leave space for that unique artists that may reach out to us. We welcome the opportunity to give someone their first opportunity to participate in the festival showcase. Last year we featured artists from the US, Canada, Netherlands, and South Africa.
