Gallery4Culture is pleased to present new sculpture and collage by Seattle artist Ben Hirschkoff.

Using surplus industrial building materials, this work portrays landscapes with fragmented, and often absurd, references to nature and industry. The cloud motif, a representation of the chaos of nature, is exploited as a symbolic archetype.

Frequently incorporating flat forms suggestive of theatrical scenery, and the application of electronic and mechanical components to produce real or implied automation, Hirschkoff strives to present "insight into the nature of perception and expediency." The hardware shop quality of the found material is emphasized to contrast between its actual use and the inferred symbolic imagery.

A reception will be held on October 4, 2007, the first Thursday of the month, during the Downtown Artwalk, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. The exhibition will run from October 4 - October 26, 2007.

Gallery4Culture is located within 4Culture offices at 101 Prefontaine PL S, at the corner of Third and Prefontaine, in the Tashiro/Kaplan Building. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., closed government holidays; the gallery is open and free to the public. For more information about this program call 206.296.8674.
