Gallery4Culture 2006-2007 Season
Tivon Rice: The History of Television: 1974 - 2006 December 7 - 29, 2006
reception DECEMBER 7, 2006, 6 – 8 p.m.
Gallery4Culture is pleased to present a new installation by Seattle artist Tivon Rice.
The History of Television: 1974-2006 explores the reduction of televised information to form and light. In this environment, the viewer's consciousness of this physical experience confronts the normally passive function of watching TV.
In 1974, pioneering video artist Nam June Paik placed a statue of Buddha before a television, allowing him to contemplate his own image. In the 32 years since TV Buddha video as an artistic medium has continually served as a self-reflective device.
A reception will be held on December 7, 2006, the first Thursday of the month, during the Downtown Artwalk, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. The exhibition will run from December 7 – 29, 2006.
